Fleet Feet Sports/September 2013 Small Business of the Month!

Posted by: Tripp James on Monday, September 23, 2013
This past Thursday we had the honor of recognizing Fleet Feet Sports and owner, Sheila McCullough-Burgess as our September 2013 Small Business of the Month winner. After talking with Sheila for just 5 minutes, one will instantly recognize why she’s a successful business owner and community leader.  Her positive spirit, energy, and passion for fitness in Greenville is immediately inspirational.  Visiting with her simply brightens your day!  According to Sheila, “A healthy community is a strong community.  It’s our future!” The Fleet Feet owner began running in 1977 for her Central Ohio high school track team.  Following several vacations to the Carolinas, she moved to Greenville in 1986.  Next, after working for store owner, Sally Nicholson from 2000-2003, Sheila purchased the business in July 2006.   Since then, Fleet Feet’s revenue has more than doubled! Sheila devotes much of her time to not only growing the business, but to making running, jogging, and walking available for all who are interested.  Her goal is to educate as many people as possible.  Fleet Feet helps sponsor and organize more than 25 events per year.  In fact on October 10, they will be hosting an event at the store called FitFest which will benefit the Susan G Komen Foundation.  Information can be found on their website at www.fleetfeetgreenville.com. Finally, I went by Fleet Feet to check out what’s called their “Fitlosophy.”  Everything they do is geared towards fitting the individual.  They go above and beyond to make sure each customer receives personalized service, education on the products being considered, and the proper size.  They believe when a true fit is achieved, performance follows.  This “Fitlosophy” is much more than a process, it’s a way of doing business… and one of the main reasons their customers keep coming back.  I can attest, as soon as one walks in the door, the Fleet Feet staff greets you with a warm, friendly welcome making sure you feel at home.  This lasts throughout your stay.  It’s a first class customer service experience! So, stop by Fleet Feet and Sheila will take great care of you.  You’ll be supporting a local business that’s highly invested in giving back to our community.  It’s a win-win for sure!! The Small Business of the Month is chosen by a selection committee from nominations provided by Greenville Chamber members. Our presenting sponsor for this award is Charter Business.
