On behalf of the Greenville Chamber, congratulations goes out to Swamp Rabbit Café and Grocery for being selected November 2017 Small Business of the Month!
Owners, Mary Walsh & Jac Oliver had the idea to start the Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery about five years ago. Their goal was to showcase the wonderful local food being grown by small, family farms and to have a place where you could know and trust where your food comes from.
The Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery is many things: a bakery, cafe, grocery store, pizza shop, wholesaler and soon to be butchery! Through all they do, they adhere to their mission, to be a force for good in the community by investing in the success of local farmers and artisans, by empowering their staff to become change makers, by educating their customers on the importance and joy of buying local, and by creating a vibrant gathering space to eat, laugh, and dance.
Swamp Rabbit Café and Grocery has been the recipient of numerous awards including:
2017 Female Small Business of the Year
2016 SBDC Small Business of the Year
The business was also awarded a grant from the USDA Local Food Promotion Program to bring more local food to the community. They received $100,000, and since then have more than returned this money back into the community. In 2016 they were awarded another grant from the USDA Local Food Promotion Program, this time to start a local-only whole animal butchery. They are currently working on this project and very excited to see great returns to the community.
The Greenville Chamber highly recommends going to see them! And be sure to try the Chocolate Chunk cookies… delicious!
