On behalf of the Greenville Chamber, congratulations goes out to Utility Audit Solutions for being selected July 2017 Small Business of the Month! The award was presented by Dan Rundle, representing the selection committee and our sponsor, Cheryl Taylor with Cowart Awards. Owner and President, Mark Basanda joined us to accept.
Utility Audit Solutions was founded by Mark Basanda in December 2008. As a former banker with budget and finance responsibility, Mark was familiar with the confusing telecom and utility bills that the bank was paying each month. He began the business with the premise of addressing two issues:
- Most businesses aren’t able to devote the time it takes to verify hundreds of pages of bills each month, and
- Most businesses don’t have the expertise and training to understand the complex tariffs and codes used in the bills.
Upon starting the business, Mark immediately joined the Greenville Chamber, since he was already familiar with the networking, educational, and support services provided by the Chamber. According to Mark, “for the first six months in business, my main marketing activity was creating contacts and leads through Chamber networking events.”
In almost 9 years since its founding, Utility Audit Solutions and its team of 5 auditors has performed hundreds of audits for corporations, nonprofits, and municipalities. On average, they have found errors and overcharges that resulted in refunds, ongoing savings, or both for over 80% of their clients. Since their fee is contingent on results, they assume all financial risk which creates a true win-win situation for all parties involved. The value of their service lies in their clients knowing they are not paying more each month than their utility providers are entitled to receive.
Utility Audit Solutions is also a Certified Veteran Owned Small Business.
