“Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.”

A critical element of Leadership Greenville (LG) is the group project. Each year, the Leadership Greenville class is divided into small groups and tasked with completing a community service project.

This group worked tirelessly on updates to Miracle Hill’s Overcomer Center. Upon completion of the project, the Miracle Hill team, Overcomers, Leadership Greenville participants, and many other people in the community came together to celebrate with a very special ribbon cutting ceremony!

Miracle Hill is the largest and most comprehensive provider of shelter and food to homeless children, women and men in Upstate South Carolina. The Overcomer Center is a highly successful, Christ-centered addiction recovery program for men. The program offers group and individual counseling, Bible study, devotional services, classroom instruction, and seminars.

The LG42 group provided updates to the outdoor area of the Center. The biggest improvement was the 12-station, 1/3 mile running and exercise track that wraps around the center.

“We can help thousands of men over many years build mental and spiritual fortitude and by encouraging healthy habits that will last long after they graduate from the program. Exercise has been proven to improve learning and memory, as well as alleviate depression, all of which support addiction recovery and prevent relapse.” said Peter Luciano, Leadership Greenville 42 class member. “If we can help men overcome addiction and keep them as active, healthy and contributing members of society, we believe that everybody benefits.”

Overcomer program graduate, Zach Miller, shared how important the track was to his recovery. For Zach, the track not only helped him with his fitness (he used it to train for his first race), but was a much-needed reprieve, a space to spread out and reflect on his journey.

Following the cutting of the ribbon, everyone headed out onto the track for a ceremonial first lap.

Join us in congratulating Miracle Hill and this LG42 group!
