Mid-Year Review

Posted by: Pulse Young Professionals on Monday, July 11, 2016

Hello July! It’s time for a mid-year self review.

We are officially halfway through 2016. That may be an unsettling fact if you’re like me and feel the year has only just begun. It seems like not that long ago I was bringing in the New Year and shoveling snow from my sidewalk.

Did you make New Year’s resolution or set out to accomplish a goal this year? Research says that over 40% of Americans set New Year’s goals, but sadly only 8% of people are successful in accomplishing those goals.

Take some time over the next few days to assess your goals and make adjustments as needed. It is also just as important to look ahead; if you have struggled to meet certain goals during the first half of the year, course-correct and get back on track to finish the year strong.

Here are a few action items for your mid-year review:

  • Write down your goals. Even if you didn’t write down your goals at the beginning of the year, take some time to put a list on paper.
  • Which goals have you achieved so far? If none, determine what has kept you from reaching your goals. Are there roadblocks? Are the goals realistic?
  • How have you grown personally and professionally in the past 6 months?
  • What have you learned about yourself?
  • Looking ahead: Create a roadmap of how you plan to accomplish the goals you’ve set.
    • Make a plan for the next 6 months.
    • Be specific about how you see the next half of the year.
    • Create a timeline of tasks that must be done to accomplish your goal.
    • Set deadlines for small attainable goals (daily, weekly, or monthly).
  • Now, put your plan into action.

Feel free to share any tips that have helped you stay focused on your goals.
