New Artwork: Survivor Series

Posted by: Megan Campbell on Tuesday, June 21, 2016

If you’ve been by the Chamber lately, you’ll notice new artwork is up. Adorning the walls are beautiful black and white prints of smiling faces.

That’s what makes it so special – each one of the subjects photographed is beaming.

The photographs are part of the Cancer Survivors Park Alliance’s Survivor Series. The Survivor Series is an effort by photographer Mark Kirby and editor Emily Price to capture and share images and stories of different journeys of survivorship with the goal of offering connection for all those touched by cancer. Local artist and CSPA volunteer/cancer survivor, Christina Laurel, played a major role in coordinating and creating the hanging displays.

Accompanying each picture is the survivor’s testimony. They each share their story, words of wisdom, and what it is in their life that gives them the strength to smile and bring such light and hope to others.

The Survivor Series editors said it best, “Through their stories and shining faces, the amazing local individuals in this series show us how to be gracious in the humble magic of a single gifted moment, to celebrate equally in the smallness and grandeur of life. In their images, perhaps we too can gleam as sunshine for others, for they can show us how to hope and heal, survive and live.”

The series is presented by TPM and will be on display in the Chamber’s TD Bank Gallery until July 29th.
