I was grateful for the opportunity to have the Greenville Chamber’s Leadership Development programs recognized in the Association of Leadership Programs’ April Newsletter. Check out a preview of the article here:

What would you like us to know about you?

As a college graduate in my 20’s, I found that I had passions for both education and the corporate sector. My education passion won out and I had the joy of being a classroom teacher at varied grade levels for 10 years after spending a period of time as a full-time mom and homemaker. My husband lovingly refers to this as my 15-year maternity leave! At the age of forty, I completed my Master’s Degree in Education. My journey to the Greenville Chamber and Leadership Development programs began in 2008. I came to the Chamber as manager of their education initiative which focused training for educators on the concepts of Continuous Improvement and incorporating the Plan Do Study Act methods based on W. Edwards Deming. During that time, I served as an examiner for the National Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and state organizational excellence awards. I later moved into the Leadership Development programs of the Chamber and experienced that moment where you realize that your two passions have collided – the calling to be an educator and those passions for the community and corporate sector. I have been working with our Leadership Development programs for five years now, beginning as a program coordinator and recently moving into the role of Director.

What is on your reading list right now?

I have just completed my Educator Re-certification for the state of South Carolina so there was a LOT of history reading! I am currently searching for engaging professional leadership books and appreciate any suggestions. I recently finished The Go-Giver (A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea) by Bob Burg and John David Mann. I find that I really connect with servant leadership.

What are 2 or 3 things that you feel contribute to your program(s) success?

Our program success is built on the Greenville Chamber’s dedication to creating positive community impact.  The seasoned and emerging leaders who participate and volunteer in these programs to ensure that the content and experiences are impactful, relevant, and connect graduates to opportunities in our community to serve and lead. Our graduates are our best advocates for recruitment and support in executing stellar experiences!

What do you see on the horizon for community leadership programs?

I have a heart for servant leadership and I feel that our programs inspire that thought. I believe that our service in the community through team projects and volunteer community service both inspire and fuel continued engagement in our community which enhances quality of life as well as economic development for our area. We simply need to do a better job of telling the story and connecting the dots!
