Did you just start a new job?  This month’s blog contains a few tips on how to orient yourself to your new workplace.  Sometimes coming in to a new environment, with new colleagues, can be somewhat of a stressful situation.  The good news?  Everyone goes through a new experience with a little shyness and uncertainty.  Remember that it is always important to dress the part; first impressions are everything.  Also, you’re not there to make BFFs.  If you end up finding a great friend that is just a really awesome perk to your job.  It is necessary to be respectful and friendly to everyone since you will be working with them on a daily basis, but you are getting paid to do a specific job and to do it to the best of your abilities.  Lastly, don’t ever be afraid to speak up.  Yes, as a “newbie," sometimes it’s better to watch and observe first, but when you feel that you have something to contribute, take courage and throw your idea out there, too. Check out this article from Forbes to get some ideas on how to make yourself more comfortable in your new “home away from home”.  Oh, and congrats! Brittany Baughman is the Community Relations Coordinator at Webster University in Greenville.  She is responsible for the recruitment efforts and public relations activities of the campus.  She and her husband, Jonathan, currently reside in Greenville.
